My name is Jayce Malec and I am a 19 year old from Atlanta, Georgia. This year, I will be embarking on an amazing adventure with the World Race through a program called the Gapless Gap Year. I am extremely excited for what the Lord has in store for this year and will be sharing information about my activities through this blog but firstly, heres a little bit about me.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but lived there briefly until I was around three years old when my dad decided to move our family to Denver, Colorado, to plant a Church. Needless to say, I am an avid skier and absolutely love the mountains and the west coast. After about 7 years, my family moved once again, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania because of a job relocation for my dad. We lived in Philadelphia for around 4 years before finally moving back to Atlanta, as nearly all of my extended family lives in, or around Georgia.
I attended public school for all of my life until I decided to attend a private Catholic school in Chamblee Georgia called Marist School. Marist supported me throughout hard COVID times and provided me with an amazing education that I will forever be grateful for. I played soccer for 2 years in highschool until I tragically tore my ACL, fully shutting down my soccer “career”.
Following my years in highschool, I decided to attend an amazing music school in Nashville Tennessee called Belmont University. I have always loved playing guitar, singing, and performing so I figured what a better place to do it than in the music capital of the United States, Nashville T.N. I absolutely loved my first year but came to realize that Music wasn’t as big of a career passion than I thought so originally. I still play guitar, sing, and perform, but I figured I enjoy doing music as a hobby or fun passtime, as opposed to a career. Following my first year, I wasn’t exactly sure what my next steps were but I knew I didn’t want to hault my education for an entire year. I also knew that I wanted to do something faith oriented and somehow, the Lord guided me to Adventures in Missions Gapless Gapyear.
This semester, we will be traveling to Macedonia, Albania, and Italy, serving in communities and spreading the word of the Gospel. Along with traveling and serving, we will be taking a set of life-skills-based classes, aimed at refining a person and making them better communicators, leaders, and members of society. Along with these life-skills classes, I will be enrolling in an online program and taking a set of courses to achieve general education credits which are transferable to many different colleges.
I am so incredibly excited for this year and what the Lord will reveal to me and allow me to do through this program. I hope this blog serves as an update system for anyone that would like to follow along with our weekly activities, thoughts or feelings throughout our time, or even general knowledge of where we are and what we are doing next. I hope you all enjoy the following posts, thanks!!
