Hello from Kenya!!!
My squad of 16 plus 3 leaders arrived in Mombasa Kenya on September 15th and spent 6 days with our incredible hosts, Megan and Erick and their practically perfect baby Zephaniah. Those six days were such a gift. Megan and Erick gave us a comfortable place to rest and recharge after a pretty intense two week training camp and 34 hours of travel. They loved us so well and had teaching and discussion times and gave us chances to get familiar with this new and very different culture we’re stepping into. We also got to swim in the Indian Ocean because we were on the coast and that was so fun! At the end of the week we split up into our teams of four or five and my team took an overnight 13 hour bus ride to Isiolo, Kenya. They only let us get out for one 25 minute stop, which seemed like some kind of human rights violation but praise God, I exercised my spiritual gift of sleeping in moving vehicles and I think I was only awake for less than two hours total of the drive. 😂
For the next month we’re staying at New Dawn African Girl, a home for girls run by Mama Nancy, a woman who knows and reflects God’s heart so beautifully! She started taking girls into her home ten years ago until they outgrew their house God provided for a beautiful new home to be built for them. They’ve been putting little finishing touches on the building and the official opening is planned for February. God has provided so graciously and abundantly for this ministry and He has big plans for them as they continue to grow and expand and get more partners and sponsors! We LOVE it here! These girls are SO precious and we are honored to get to pour into them while we’re here and Mama Nancy is so intentional about pouring into us as well! We have been having long prayer times with her and she is always teaching, challenging and loving on us!
We also got connected with people at a local House of Prayer and have been joining them multiple days a week for worship and prayer. We have been focusing on pouring into the girls on nights and weekends and helping with cooking dinners here and we plan to be flexible in following God’s leading during the days. We’re in a small city which has a high population of Muslims and we are praying for God to open up doors in our conversations to point people to Jesus, the only source of true peace.
