Hello friends and family! I wanted to update you guys on my team’s ministry while we are here in beautiful South Africa.
My team is working at a Christian orphanage the whole time we are here! This has opened my eyes so so much. Have you ever complained about how you didn’t like the food on your plate? Have you ever complained about how you want new clothes or you are just starving because you haven’t eaten in 2 hours? Because honestly, I have. When you are sitting comfortably in your home in America it is so easy to take things for granted. Helping out and working at this orphanage has shown me so many things. It has shown how much brokenness is in this world. There are kids here and everywhere that are hungry, like actually starving. Kids who wear the same clothes every day. Children who don’t know what love is, have not felt the true love of another human.
But guess what? Jesus died for them, Jesus loves with so entirely much, and He wants people to love and care for them too. The kids who have the least amount of things seem to be the happiest. These kids at the orphanage have so much joy; they are jumping up and down praising Jesus and just so simply happy to play with people who care about them.
I have only been here for one week and I already have so many stories and emotions to share with you all. One of the kid’s favorite things to do during free time is play with our hair. They just love how soft it is and how much you can play with it. Normally we will have 3 or 4 little kids with their hands in our hair messing around with it. The kids also love just spending time with you and giving you hugs and dancing! If you put on any type of music they just start dancing around and singing so loud it is precious.
I ask for prayers for our whole team that we can continue to love these precious kids and be able to show them the love of Jesus. We are also starting to build relationships with the women who work there and the high schoolers too. Pray that we will have the right words to encourage them and can continue to grow that friendship!
