I’m Our first week of ministry in Guatemala just wrapped up, and I can barely capture how incredible it’s been! We’re in Poptun, which is about nine hours from Antigua, where the other half of our team is working. Here, we’ve partnered with an organization called One Way, which focuses on education, healthcare, nutrition, and recreation—a mission that’s felt so impactful in every moment we’ve spent here.
Every morning, we work in local schools, and these kids have become the absolute highlight of my week. They are some of the most welcoming, loving children I’ve ever met. Without fail, every time we arrive, they run up with huge smiles, wrapping us in hugs that just melt my heart. There’s an instant bond in those moments, and it makes me feel so connected to this community and the work we’re doing here.
Evenings have their own kind of magic as we all gather to play soccer, or “fútbol” as it’s called here. Soccer is huge in Central America, and it shows—these kids are very talented! While my soccer skills might be lacking, they’re patient with us and always cheering us on. There’s so much laughter and joy, and it’s amazing to see how a simple game can bring us all together.
Looking ahead, I’m beyond excited to keep building these relationships and pouring into the lives of these kids and their families. It feels like we’re here not just to serve but to learn and grow alongside them.
Until next week,
Ashlin:)
