My name is Jenny Cebers-Korkmaz (mouthful I know) and here’s a little about me. I was born and raised in Derbyshire, UK – but I now live on the beautiful Norfolk broads in the east of England, having built an amazing Christian community out here after moving base for my job. My father is originally from Turkey and my maternal Grandad, Latvian – hence the not-so-British sounding name!
I have a Masters of Science degree in Geoscience Research and I’m never really in one place for very long due to my job. I am an Offshore Geophysicist by trade and work on boats out at sea for 1 to 2 months at a time. That’s why having such a strong church community is so important to me, cultivating amazing Christ-centred friendships really does boost morale when time offshore seems never ending! When I’m back home for awhile, I love to help out with Youth Ministry at my local church which is truly fruitful. They’re an amazing group of teens…they inspire me every time we get together and I wish I had more time to plug in to them!
I have one younger sister and we all lived together with my amazing grandparents growing up, which was such a blessing to my life. I personally came to faith and fully embraced my own relationship with the Lord around my mid-twenties (I am 28 at the time of writing this). As many of you know, life can suddenly take a turn and you can quickly find yourself drastically needing stronger foundations and craving that often silent void in our hearts to be poured in to – usually by finding that missing puzzle piece of spiritual enlightenment. That was my story – after a rocky patch in my life, dealing with grief, anxiety and health concerns all in the space of a few months, I realised my own foundations weren’t as strong as I thought they were whilst doing life as a young adult. The light bulb moment that happens to many of us hits hard – and the striking realisation that you can’t do life well on your own strength anymore becomes reality and we’re left with a yearning for guidance, forgiveness and an endless love only God can provide us in absolute abundance. Finally surrendering my own plan and control over my life, for Gods plan, was the most freeing and peace-filled decision I have ever made – and I have never looked back! I am forever grateful for the blessings He has brought to my life ever since, and for those that are yet to come…
