Gap M just finished the first month of the race. We were off too Sungai Petani, Malaysia. We had a lay over in the Qatar international Airport (I can cross that off my bucket list). We flew into Kuala Lumpur International Airport and met our host, Pastor Thomas! Aka PT!! He has such a loving and serving heart for the Lord. After our 28-hour travel day, we had a 6 hour bus ride to start our journey in malaysia.
We arrived at our new home for the next 40 days. It was a one room church. All 34 slept on the floor with our sleeping pads and our belongs! I realized that things were going to be a challenge and that I had to trust Gods plan even more. I was with people I’ve know for only 6 weeks. Yet somehow I considered them my 2nd family.
Our ministry was teaching English to Muslim refugee children Monday-Wednesday. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in on the first day of school. The first day of school we all played games to get to the know the kids. By the end of the school day, the kids picked there teachers. None of the kids chose me at first. So for the next day of school I was able to go out for lunch with our host PT! I was told that there were girls not at school because they were sick, so I was trusting for what God had planned for my student. I met my student on the third day. She is a really shy girl. So it was hard enough with the langue barrier. On the next week of school I was able to start teaching her math and English. She loved to read a lot. I enjoyed every moment with her. It was hard to think that we couldn’t share the gospel with these kids. We were able to share the love the Jesus through us.
Besides teaching, our days were filled with a mix of ministry and spontaneous side quests. We participated/ performed in several cultural events. For example, we joined a Hindu light festival, which turned out to be a talent show. We performed a skit about Jesus’ birth and got to share the gospel after. We were invited to an Indian wedding, where we did church clap on stage, ate incredible food ALL THE TIME, and celebrated how good God is. One of the most unexpected things, and memorable, experiences was filming a professional music video. For weeks all the girls on Gap M, practiced dancing in the sanctuary. When the day came we filmed the video at a quarry.
We had Adventure days! On those days we would go to a coffee shop, a mall, or rest at the church. One week we all went to Penang! Penang is such a beautiful island. We went shopping, went to the beach, and explored Penang hill. We had a beautiful place to stay in. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to go. We went to church Sunday night after the beach. It was such an incredible experience. It’s amazing watching other cultures worship Jesus. We had a late night dinner after church with the people. It was so good to be able to get to talk and get to the know them after.
Malaysia was filled with so many unexpected moments. It’s was challenging at first but I’m so grateful for the experience. It’s incredible to see how Jesus moves. Even if we can’t understand the language but LANGUAGE DOES NOT MATTER. I’m so grateful for the experience. Malaysia will hold a special place in my heart. The Lord has shown me what I want to do for the rest of my life. I’m so thankful for this opportunity. Stay tuned to hear what God is doing in BANGKOK
