Hey Guys!
This past Monday (9-23-24) all the squads left for domestic ministry! My squad, M-Squad, is in Mississippi right now. We are all in a house hosted by Mennonites, It has been so interesting to learn about their culture and beliefs. As for ministry, we are doing manual work for the community in Macon. It has been such a cool experience so far. We leave on Sunday after we go to a Choctaw church service.
On Tuesday our host took us to this place called the Dancing Rabbit. None of us knew what this was and our host wanted to keep it a surprise. We were on a road driving there and our host said that the road we were on was the road that the Americans used to travel on after the Revolutionary War for food, travel, and to meet at the Dancing Rabbit Creek.
We arrive at our destination, which is a Native American gravesite. We met a lady there and she talked about the significance of the land. The land we were on is where the 1830 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek took place and was signed. This treaty was between the Choctaw nation and the US. The Choctaw had to give over their land west of the Mississippi if they didn’t want a war to break out. It was a very somber experience to be on that land but so full of history and I learned so much.
Wednesday and Thursday we woke up had breakfast and went to where help was needed. We worked till 3 and then Wednesday night we went to a Choctaw church for a youth group. It was so fun hanging out with the kids and learning some games they like to play.
Every morning we do devotionals and I have been waking up early and sitting outside and watching the sunrise and its so peaceful. I think for me I see God so much in nature and it’s just amazing to see the sunlight everything up every morning. ALSO I made a new friend. Its name is Cheezit and it’s a cat, but every morning when I go outside Cheezit is waiting on the steps and follows me to my devo spot. She stays with me and just sits in my lap. I love Cheezit. Anyway haha I am learning so much here and I can’t wait to update you guys on the rest of my week soon!
