We had stopped at a woman’s bed in the hospital and her daughter had said she was supposed to get surgery for appendicitis and would like to receive prayer. We gathered around her bed and held hands, but the daughter didn’t join, so I asked her if she wanted to. She immediately came towards me and held only my hand during the prayer. I thought nothing of it until we went to the next bed, but the Lord had placed it on my heart to get to know where the heart of the daughter was. I didn’t have a chance to talk to her, so we went to the next bed. A few beds later, we came across another daughter there with her mom, but again the Lord had placed it on my heart to stop and get to know the daughter and pray for peace over her. I didn’t feel like I could step up and ask because we were tight on time and had other rooms to go to, so I didn’t say anything.

We all left the room, and the Lord tugged on my heart. I felt him confirming those feelings to talk to those two women. So I immediately asked Alisha(my team leader) and Emma(my teammate) to go back in there to talk to those women. We went back in and talked to the first woman about where her heart was. She had expressed her deep gratitude for the Lord, because her mom ended up not needing the surgery which humans usually need for a burst appendix(Praise the Lord). Then she continued to express how it has been harder recently because her husband passed away during Covid due to a complication within the hospital and she has a 28 year old son with special needs she is constantly taking care of. She began to get very emotional while expressing how it’s been super hard but how she is still feeling so blessed by the Lord. She then got pulled away to help her mother use the bathroom.

So we went to the second woman. I had told her that the Lord had placed it on my heart to pray peace over her heart. At the time she seemed very emotional and upset due to the fact that her mother was not doing well. So I prayed peace over her heart and her mom, but also that she would open her heart to the Lord.

After praying, we went back to the other woman to continue talking with her. She had told us that the doctors said her son wouldn’t live past 7 years but he’s 28!! That is such a blessing!! She then asked why I came back to talk to her and I said that the Lord placed it on my heart to get to know her and pray over her specifically. She said that’s such a blessing and that when she held my hand during the prayer, she had felt the Holy Spirit through my hand. Side Note: that just blows my mind, that God can and will literally work through you to benefit others, like wow. Anyways, we continued talking and she mentioned how she wants prayer for her physical and spiritual health. It has been hard for her physically because her son is unable to walk so she has to carry him everywhere.

But while we were talking to the first woman (^^), the second one started singing a worship song. At first I thought I was the only one that could hear it but Emma could too. We looked around and saw the second woman singing and smiling towards us. She was singing “Here’s my heart” by Casting Crowns. She was singing the tune of it and the line “here’s my heart Lord” over and over again, but in Spanish. Emma was able to understand what she was singing so she told me and I was amazed. Like that is insane, especially because I had prayed that she would open her heart to the Lord and I’ve been praying that myself.

I had then prayed over the other woman and held her hands while Emma had her hand on my shoulder and Alisha had her hand on both of us. Alisha had been translating for me and the woman had been praying over me. And the other woman was still singing while I was praying. It was honestly the most surreal experience of my life and truly from God. To be able to pray in two languages and then worship in the hospital room full of people too. I have honestly never been a part of something like that in a public space, especially a hospital. Being able to see how the Lord worked in the lives of those women, and my life is amazing. This mission trip isn’t just about me going to bless people with God, but to also be blessed by God and people.
