Molo (hello) from South Africa!

We have been in South Africa a little over a week and my heart is absolutely in love. After 72 hours of travel we hit the ground running. The schools had a holiday coming up so we wanted to get some face time with the kids before they we’re on holiday. I volunteered to be the “housewives” to the group that means me and another girl chose to stay back and cook and clean for the squad while there were at ministry. It was such a blessing to be able to cook and have a meal ready so that we could gather around the table after a day of hard work and hear how God moved that day. However it was difficult to step aside and miss those first days of ministry but also allowed me to find joy in washing dishes and so much more. This job of “housewives” rotates every two days and it was definitely a blessing.

Ministry-

We have three teams within our squad. My team has the privilege of getting to go to an orphanage as well as a pre-school. The orphanage is ran by a woman that felt a calling 23 years ago to open her home to the children that needed to be removed from their home life or had no other place to go. The latest addition to her family are twin girls that were removed from their homes. Let’s call them Chloe and Zoe they are 10 months old. We start each morning giving the twins baths and starting breakfast. Then we play games or sing songs with all the children until lunch time. Before nap time we usually go to the playground and the kids love to be pushed while on the swings or carried across the monkey bars. I am trying to convince several that they can in fact do it themselves and are big strong kids they are not quite convinced yet.

This week we had an absolute treat and were able to take all of the kids to the beach for a fun day. It was Chloe and Zoe’s first time at the beach. Lets just say that eating sand and monitoring everything is very tiring work. When we got back to their house that had prepared a traditional south African meal. We had chicken intestines, throats, and hearts. This was the most bizarre thing that I have ever eaten … I was definitely not used to this cuisine. One of the boys is training to become a chef and wanted to prepare a traditional meal for us. Everyone I have met is so loving and willing to share whatever they have. I think this is something we all could work on. For now I am going to love you and leave you (My new favorite goodbye in this culture). Until next time. <3
