Hello all! Welcome to my blog. We are going on three weeks into our adventure in Bangkok, Thailand. Our time here so far has been sweet. Our team, Lillie, Alex, Areonah, Mandy, and I, have been working with our host, Benz, her family, and her English learning school, A-Mane.
If I could only pick one word to describe our host it would be intentional. Benz has been super intentional with our time and how she plans our days. Initially, she allowed us ample time to settle in and show us around, which was greatly appreciated. After a few days of resting and adjusting to the time difference, we spent our first week introducing ourselves and playing games with the students. Last week and for the upcoming two weeks, she has us teaching classes that pertain to what we studied in school. During introductions, I noticed the students in each class were intrigued with what we majored in college. I think it’s awesome we get to share a little bit about what we’re passionate about plus, it’s most likely what we can teach best about!
Last week I got to lead classes that pertained to environmental science. Although it was surface level for basic English learning, it was fun and fulfilling. Teaching and interacting with the students has been a blast, and I cannot wait to watch my teammates teach about their field.
As for our team, we have been spending wholesome, intentional time together and learning more about each other every day. Especially as we just completed a 48-hour phone cleanse! It was hard during downtime but refreshing. Because we aren’t using our phones before bed, the girls I’m sharing a room with, Alex and Areonah, and I started sharing funny stories, which we then carried on to dinner conversations. As time passes, I see more and more how perfect our team is for our time in Bangkok! We all are attentive, understanding, and loving to each other and those around us in different ways and it’s beautiful to watch play out.
