Thanksgiving!! I wasn’t sure how Thanksgiving was going to look this year (or if we would celebrate at all) so I’m here to share how it looked for me!!

As a squad we all decided on what foods to bring to the table. It was so special getting to choose what American dishes we could bring to Nicaragua to share. For a lot of us we made traditional dishes we would normally have on Thanksgiving from home. We had the opportunity to share the food we cooked with everyone. That included the squad + the Nicaraguan staff, who for the first time got to celebrate the American tradition. For me, I got to help cook majority of the day which was so restful!! Once all the dishes were prepared we first served the Nicaraguans and then proceeded to dish ourselves. There was so much food!! For those of us that were missing home over the holidays, having our mom’s apple crisp, mac and cheese, and sweet potato’s allowed for a taste of home in Nicaragua. We danced in the kitchen, flung whip cream practically everywhere, and burnt the queso. That accumulated to so much joy I can’t even express!

Yes the food was great, the time in the kitchen, the preparation, it was all such a sweet time but also it allowed a space to celebrate all the ways the Lord has provided!

psalm 7:17 “I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.”

Psalm 69:30 “I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.”

I am soooo beyond blessed to be placed here at this specific time. I felt like Thanksgiving truly highlighted all the things I didn’t even realize I had. I don’t deserve anything but through the Lord he gives me EVERYTHING. Thank you thank you!!! Another thing Gods been showing me is that  when we are living our lives in alignment with the Lord we’re able to give exponentially! When I take my mind off of myself it suddenly becomes so much easier to give my time, belongings, and money away. Key point: With thanks comes giving. Let’s be people that give freely!!! I saw so much giving throughout the day where people didn’t seek anything in return but just spent out of love for eachother. What if we did that everyday at every opportunity?? So if you haven’t gotten it already my little Nicaraguan Thanksgiving looked different than normal but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Soon I’ll be heading to South East Asia where I’ll be separate from my squad and just with my team (Making the holiday together that much sweeter)! Stay updated and thanks for reading!!!
