It’s me again!
Can you believe it? It’s just two months until I set off on my mission trip, and the excitement is building up! I’ve been in a whirlwind of preparation, prayer, and anticipation as God has been gently preparing my heart for what’s ahead. Honestly, I can’t wait to share more details with you about the countries I’ll be visiting and the incredible work that’s happening there. So, buckle up, because I’m about to give you a sneak peek into what’s to come!
South Africa: Where Soccer, Safaris, and Service Meet
Let’s start with South Africa – a place that’s as diverse as it is stunning. Soccer Safaris, and breathtaking coastlines, are a huge part of what makes South Africa the place it is today. But it’s not just the scenery that draws me in—it’s the people and the work we’ll be doing there.
- A Country of Diversity: South Africa is home to multiple ethnic groups and nationalities all living together in communities. It’s a country with a complicated history, and the scars of apartheid are still very much present. Issues like economic inequality, segregation, and racism are still challenges, but God is at work in the hearts of the people there.
- Serving Through Education: I’ll be partnering with Global Leadership Academy, where I’ll serve in after-school programs helping students improve their reading skills and discover the joy of music and art. It’s going to be so fulfilling to see children grow in these areas, and I can’t wait to come alongside them in their educational journeys.
- Jeffreys Bay: And let’s not forget the surfing capital of South Africa—Jeffreys Bay! If you’ve never heard of it, think endless beaches, perfect waves, and tourists from all over the world. But it’s not just a surfer’s paradise; it’s also an amazing place to connect with people through ministry. I’ll be spending time in coffee shops and even doing beach evangelism (yes, you read that right—evangelism by the beach!). I’m hoping to meet people from all walks of life and share the love of Jesus in this laid-back, yet impactful way.
Eswatini: A Nation in Need, A Heart for Hope
Next, I’ll be heading to Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland)- There’s a lot of need here, but there’s also so much hope.
- The HIV/AIDS Crisis: Eswatini has the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world, which has left thousands of children without parents. It’s heartbreaking to see so many families affected by this pandemic, but the church is rising up to make a difference. The people of Eswatini are strong, and the work being done there is inspiring.
- Living Below the Poverty Line: Sadly, 40% of Swazis live on less than $1.25 per day. That’s below the international poverty line, and it’s a sobering statistic. But God is at work through the local ministries there, providing hope in tangible ways through feeding programs, agriculture projects, and leadership development.
- Children as Leaders: One of the most exciting things about serving in Eswatini is the opportunity to be a part of a long-term commitment made by Adventure is Missions, who have been serving in Eswatini for over 20 years. They run 23 care points across the country, providing food, education, and leadership training for over 7,000 children daily. It will be incredible to see these kids come in hungry and leave empowered, knowing they have a future and a purpose. The vision is to raise up leaders who will not only spread the Gospel but also build an abundant, healthy future for Eswatini.
What’s Next?
I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve in these two incredible nations. In the coming months, I’ll be diving deeper into what I’ll be doing in both South Africa and Eswatini, and I’ll be sharing more about how you can be part of this journey with me—whether through prayer, support, or encouragement.
As the countdown continues, I’m more and more excited to see how God will use me in these communities. I know He’s already preparing my heart for the challenges and joys ahead. Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being part of this journey with me!
