‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭22‬-‭25‬

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

On our last day of ministry (November 8, 2024), we held a foot washing for a group of students. I honestly didn’t expect them to understand the significance of it. We read them the story of Jesus washing his disciples feet in John 13, then we broke into groups to start washing. The kids ranged from ages 7 to 12 years old. By the end of the experience, I was an emotional wreck. One of the older boys was fully sobbing. I walked over to pray for him and he held onto me and could not stop crying. He told us about his alcoholic father. It was heartbreaking to hear the way a father treated his. Unfortunately that’s the reality for so many kids around the whole world.

In that moment, I realized how specific each life is- how real each life is. It wasn’t about ministry, or the race, or going home- it was just about a child who needed a father to love him. It was about praying for him, and just hoping that Jesus was translating my prayer into that boys heart. Hoping that everything I prayed for will become a reality for him, and hoping that the same God that I know will become the God of that child’s heart and the Father he needed.

I’ve been home for 2 months now, but that last moment with the kids in Guatemala still breaks my heart. I will forever carry it with me. Remembering this broken world and looking forward to what is to come- the kingdom of God. A time when the weak and vulnerable people in this world will not be taken advantage of, a time when families will live in peace, and a time when Jesus will make everything okay again.

Revelation 21:1-5

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.
