Hello friends and family,
I am so excited to begin this journey and to update you all along the way. There’s already so much to share. On August 31st, I landed in Georgia to begin mission training at the Adventures in Missions (AIM) base camp, which became my home for the next two weeks.
Before I get too far into what training camp looked like I wanted to introduce you all to P squad!!! These are the men and women that I have had the privilege to get to know these last two weeks. I am beyond excited to see what the Lord has in store for each of us over the next few months.
WHAT I’VE LEARNED…
What surprised me the most during training was how much focus there was on my own spiritual growth. I assumed training for mission work would involve focusing in the spiritual development of others. However, before I can pour into others, I need to let God shape and transform me first. These past two weeks have really allowed me to explore spiritual disciplines in a deeper way and reflect on how God is calling me to grow in Him.
One verse that’s been on my heart throughout this time at camp is Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Before I can go out and share the gospel with others, I’ve realized how important it is for God to first work on me—transforming my heart and mind to be more like Christ. This whole journey is about letting God reshape me from the inside out, and it’s both exciting and challenging!
During camp, we dug deep into spiritual disciplines like prayer, worship, missions, and hearing the Lords voice—things that have always been part of my faith, but now I’m learning to lean into them on a new level. We had designated moments of personal reflection and prayer that just stirred my heart, and it made me think about how I want to carry these practices with me on this trip and beyond. I’ve been journaling a lot, which helps me process everything God is doing throughout this journey, and I’ve committed to making time for prayer and scripture every day, even when things get busy. I know it’s going to be key to staying grounded in the word and giving God a special part of my day.
Being away from home has really stripped away a lot of distractions, and I’m learning to trust God in new ways—especially when things get tough (like when I’m exhausted and crawling into a tent of 7 other women at night!). But it’s in these moments that I’m reminded my identity is in Christ, not my circumstances. This is something I’m holding onto as I continue on this mission.
