When I got out of the car and met my leaders, I instantly knew that training camp was going to be a great time.
We are officially done with the first week of training here in Gainesville, Georgia. This week was packed with action. We have spent most of every day being seeped in teaching, word, worship, and fellowship.
Teaching
We received several teachings throughout the week.
Here is a list of a couple of topics that were covered: What is the gospel; Entering the holy place by the blood of Jesus; Pursuing truth: who is truth rather than what is truth; Not knowing of Christ but knowing Christ; Partnership and multiplication with the Holy Spirit; Forgiveness sets us free; Discerning God’s voice; Keeping Sabbath.
I have noticed a huge focus on the work of the Holy Spirit. Since World Race is interdenominational, I have witnessed different perspectives on spiritual gifts, which has definitely challenged my perspective. They have given us the opportunity to discuss these things, which has allowed everyone to share differing opinions. Despite the diversity of beliefs, everyone recognizes that none of us are God, and none of us want to intellectually limit the ways in which He works. I am grateful for how these perspectives are sharpening my own personal beliefs.
My favorite teaching has been on the Sabbath, which we received yesterday. World Race emphasizes the fact that we do not need to be constantly striving, which is a healthy break from the Naval Academy. As such, today is a Sabbath day that we have to rest, have fun, and keep ourselves in order (no scheduled events)!
Word
Every morning, we start off our day spending 45 minutes in Scripture to devote our day to the Lord. Additionally, we have squad prayer time (which consists of different forms of prayer) for 30 minutes in the afternoon. Each day the Lord is revealing new things to us and providing daily bread to build us up.
Worship
Every day we spend at least an hour in worship before we get into teaching. This worship is passionate, with long (like 20 minute long!) songs. The Lord has been especially working in my heart through the worship. I have been an absolute wreck by the end of every session, as His love continues to wash over me anew every time. I am extremely grateful to be in a community that loves to worship the Lord fervently.
Fellowship
It is rare that people spending quality or quantity time with one another anymore. Training camp contains both. I have spent all day with the 31 racers in my group, and we only have our phones for a limited amount of time. As a result, I feel like I know everyone here quite well even after only one week! We have had encouraging, vulnerable, and fun times already. I eagerly expect the future memories I will make with these brothers and sisters.
