My First Week in Guatemala
As I sit here, nestled on the side of a mountain in Guatemala, I can hardly believe how quickly I’ve fallen in love with this country. The past week has been a whirlwind of experiences, and Iām eager to share my journey so far.
A Slice of Paradise
From the moment I arrived, the scenery took my breath away. Surrounded by towering volcanoes, including an active one that looms majestically nearby, every glance out of my tent reveals a stunning landscape that feels both awe-inspiring and humbling. The quiet of this remote location is a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Limited electricity and spotty service mean fewer distractionsājust me, nature, and my thoughts. Itās the perfect setting to connect with God and reflect on the beauty around me.
Culture and Hospitality
The Guatemalan culture is rich and vibrant, infused with traditions that are as colorful as the textiles sold in local markets. Iāve had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly kind and generous people. Despite having so little, they share what they have with open hearts, which is a beautiful reminder of the power of community and hospitality. Their warmth has made me feel at home, even in this foreign land.
Culinary Delights
And then thereās the food! The local restaurants are bursting with flavor, and Iāve discovered the best coffee Iāve ever tasted. Sipping a cup of fresh Guatemalan brew while overlooking the breathtaking views is a simple pleasure that Iāll cherish.
Architectural Wonders
As I explore the nearby towns, Iām constantly captivated by the magnificent architecture. The buildings here are adorned with intricate details and vibrant colors, telling stories of the past through their craftsmanship. Each structure seems to hold a piece of history, making every stroll feel like a journey through time.
Missing My Squad
Itās been a little bittersweet, though, as our squad got split in half, with the other group now nine hours away from us. We miss them dearly and often find ourselves reminiscing about the fun and laughter we shared together. The bond weāve formed is strong, and I look forward to reconnecting and sharing our experiences when the time comes.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow marks the beginning of our ministry work, and I can hardly contain my excitement. Iām eager to see what the Lord has planned for us in the local villages. I know that this experience will not only impact those we serve but also profoundly shape my own heart and spirit.
In just one week, Guatemala has already gifted me with unforgettable memories, a deeper understanding of its culture, and a growing anticipation for whatās to come. Iām grateful for this opportunity and canāt wait to see how the next chapter unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue this incredible journey!
