Reflecting on My First Week @Training Camp
Wow, what a week it has been at the World Race Training Camp! Iām thrilled to share a bit about my experiences from this incredible journey so far.
Day 1: Settling In and Bonding
The first day was full of activity as we set up camp and arranged our gear in our tents. With our squad (Squad O) we have 21 of us in totalā3 leaders (all girls), 17 girls, and 3 boysāwe quickly got to know each other through a few friendly card games. By evening, we gathered at the pavilion for worship and our first session. It was a day filled with sessions dedicated to understanding the gospel, setting the stage for our training.
Day 2: Finding Joy in the Simple Things
Day two was marked by an amazing time of worship. The harmony of our voices felt like a glimpse of heaven. We also got to enjoy a refreshing shower, which was a real treat despite the fact that the humidity had us sweating again almost immediately. The shower experience was less about luxury and more about the sheer relief of feeling clean for a brief moment.
Day 3: Deepening Connections and Learning
By day three, we had bonded as a squad, growing closer through shared experiences. We had sessions separated by gender, which gave us an inspiring look into womenās roles in the church. It was empowering to hear from women who lead and teach, further strengthening our sense of community and purpose.
Day 4: Embracing Challenges and Growth
The fourth day was filled with sessions about Godās love and our roles within it. We also tried bucket showers, which were surprisingly tolerable despite being freezing. It was a day of learning and adapting, as we continued to grow both individually and as a team.
Day 5: Personal Reflection and Revival Night
On day five, we had one-on-one time with our squad leaders to discuss our progress and goals. It was a valuable opportunity for personal reflection. The day culminated in Revival Night, a powerful experience that left us spiritually refreshed and motivated.
Day 6: Laundry and Late-Night Prayers
Day six involved more sessions and worship, along with the experience of doing laundry with just buckets, a hose, and powdered detergent. I may have overused the detergentāleading to some rather starchy clothesābut it was a learning experience. We also had a prayer watch, where my shift with Emma and Maddy from Idaho was from 3 am to 4 am. It was a unique and enjoyable time of connecting with God during the early hours.
Day 7: Fitness Challenges and Empowerment
The final day of the week was marked by an intense fitness activity. From carrying teammates on our backs to tackling hundreds of squats and flipping tractor tires, it was a physically demanding but empowering experience. It reminded me that I am capable of tackling tough challenges and growing stronger through them.
**Tips for Future Campers**
A few things to keep in mind if youāre preparing for camp: Expect to be dirty and sweatyārain is a frequent visitor, so keep your tent zipped up. Baby wipes become a lifesaver. A smaller backpack might be more comfortable for carrying your gear, and invest in a good sleeping padātrust me, the ground is not forgiving. And be prepared for spiders!
Despite the challenges, Iām thoroughly enjoying my time here. The sunsets are breathtaking, and Iāve forged friendships that I know will last a lifetime. Iām learning so much about myself and deepening my relationship with the Lord. His love and grace have been evident throughout this week. Iām looking forward to whatās ahead, including the exciting squad wars next week!
Hereās to many more adventures and growth in the weeks to come!
