Hey friends!!! It’s Mary Kate, and I cannot wait for you to join me (even if only through a blog) on this crazy World Race adventure I am about to embark on!

Last summer, I heard about the World Race through a few friends who had gone on it. These girls returned from their trips glowing with the Lord’s love and radiating His light. As I listened to their captivating stories and life-changing experiences with the Lord, my question changed from “Why go on the World Race?” to “Why not go on the World Race?”

I arranged my school schedule so I could finish my credits a semester early, and I committed to going on one of the World Race trips for this past spring semester. Through a series of events that took place at the end of the fall semester, I decided it would be better for me to stay home. Although everything in me longed to go, I am so abundantly thankful I did not. The Lord had important lessons for me to learn here – lessons of His Love, faithfulness, and all sufficiency. Lessons of my pride, selfishness, and brokenness. Most of all, my gentle, sweet Abba has been teaching me of my weakness and of His strength.

Even though I decided to stay home for the spring, everything in me still wanted to go on a mission trip with the World Race. So, when an opportunity opened up to go to Guatemala for the month of June, I prayed about it, talked it through with my parents, and said yes!

My journey to the World Race looked nothing like how I wanted it to, and I know the trip itself will end up being the same. But through it all, the Lord has shown me how to more deeply trust his plans and hands, and He is daily revealing to me what a life of weakness and surrender looks like.

So, I will be spending June 1st-30th first in Gainesville, Georgia, at training, and then in a small Guatemalan town called Parramos!! Over the month, my team (about 40 other Racers) and I will be involved in things such as helping in an after-school program (doing similar things to what I’ve been doing at Thrive!), assisting in projects around the community, spreading the gospel through evangalism and the church, and so much more. My eyes fill with tears when I think of the Lord and His kindness, not only in giving everything to save me and bring me into bountiful life and freedom, but in inviting me to participate as He rescues people out of darkness into His marvelous light.

To go on this incredible journey, I will need to raise $3,500 to cover the cost of travel, lodging, food, transportation, and much more.

If you would like to join me on this adventure and help support me, here are a few ways:

  • Pray – the Lord has been teaching me the power of prayer recently, and I cannot think of a bigger honor than to leave on my trip wrapped in the prayers of my family and friends. This is the most significant way you can support me while I’m gone! I would love prayers for unity with me and my squad, for growth in my Father, and for humility in and obedience to His will.
  • Donate – you can give here if you would like to! I also want to make sure you know that all the money you give is tax-deductible, non-transferable, and non-refundable.
  • Follow along – you can subscribe to my blog so you get notifications when I post, and you can also follow along on Instagram @mklumsdaine — I’ll be sharing updates, photos, and stories along the way.

I cannot express to you how thankful I am for this opportunity and for all your past, present, and future support, which makes this possible.

On my own, I am incapable of anything good, beautiful, meaningful. My blog, my trip, my life are empty without the Father. But when He enters the scene, He changes everything. He is in the business of the good, the beautiful, and the meaningful, and I cannot wait to see how he weaves this story, not of my accomplishments, but of His. So, I begin my journey at a place I do not really want to be: weakness. I cannot wait to see how He will show Himself to be strong!

I love you all so much!!

MK Lumsdaine

P.S. Would you also be praying 2 Corinthians 12:9 over me as I go?
