My Name is Blake: God’s Call to Missions
My name is Blake, and is God calling me to the mission field overseas to teach and help others. You’re probably wondering how I came to this conclusion. Well, about a year ago, around Christmas, my church’s youth group was volunteering at Operation Christmas Child. I was working alongside some people I had just met since I was new to the group. While I was there, I had a conversation with my now good friend’s mom. We talked about different volunteering opportunities I had been involved in, and she introduced me to her son, who had gone on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
I was curious because I had never thought about going on a mission trip before. As we spoke, I felt like I should go on this trip, and to my surprise, my friend was going again the next summer. That night, I was eager to tell my parents, and as soon as the application opened in January, I signed up.
After the trip to the Dominican Republic, I was amazed at what God was doing in another country and how He used our group to change lives. I got to hear stories from people who were staying faithful in a country where witchcraft is very evident.
One of my friends had recently gone on the World Race, and he told me about his experience. He shared how the trip had changed his life and told me about the incredible things he had witnessed.
After these events, I began to feel like I wasn’t doing anything here in America to share or speak God’s word. I had just joined a Bible study with the friend who had gone on the World Race and another friend from high school. It really changed the way I had been viewing God. I was hungry for more and was learning so much.
Our group decided to take a trip to Gainesville, GA which is the World Race training center. We cooked, fixed things, and helped all around. We got to talk to many amazing people, hearing their stories and gaining wisdom from them. It was truly inspiring. After this trip, I couldn’t stop thinking about the World Race. I would look up the application multiple times a week.
I wasn’t sure what to do. What was God trying to tell me? One week, our group had a challenge to read Matthew 6:16-18, where Jesus speaks about fasting. After reading that passage, I knew I needed to fast to find my answer. After fasting, God led me to Isaiah 8:6. After praying and talking to my parents, I decided to sign up.
Now, I am going on the World Race, leaving in August for a 9-month adventure!
